I started my journey 6 months ago. At that time, I was lost deep in my addiction to drugs and alcohol, but I chose to do something different. I found a good, stable home at Rand Recovery, a place where I could feel safe and start working on my life.
I’m now going to college for a pre-social work program, taking my sobriety seriously, and giving my life to God. For me, this path isn’t just about staying clean — it’s about creating a future where I can help others the same way people have helped me.

When I found Rand Recovery House, I had given up. It was my last effort to do anything to better my life. I was the first person to enter the house, and I was very skeptical that it would have any positive impact on me. I felt like I had nothing to lose, so I went through the interview thinking I would never get in.
But I was accepted into the house—and that was the beginning of a very meaningful journey that changed my life forever.
I found people who showed me love, understanding, and belief in me. For the first time, I had someone show me that I am a person—not just my addiction and past mistakes. I learned how to love life again, believe in myself, and see that I am not a mistake. I learned that it’s okay to love myself and forgive myself for the past.
I am moving into my own place on May 1st after a year and five months at the house. I never thought I’d make it this long or even want to stay this long. But because of two incredible people who are Rand Recovery, this has been the most meaningful and best life experience I’ve ever had.
I want to say thank you, and send nothing but love to you, Rebecca Rand and Derek Erickson. Thank you for coming into my life and showing me that I am deserving of love, that it’s okay to believe in myself, and most importantly, to forgive myself for my past.
So if you’re struggling with addiction—putting in the work pays off, especially when you have two amazing people in your corner like these two. It saved my life and showed me how to love life again while sober. I never thought I could do this, but it is worth it—and it’s possible for anyone who wants it and has the right people supporting them.
It’s both sad and happy to be moving on. I feel like I’ve made two lifelong friends. You guys are the best.
